Homestays with an American Family

Thank you for your inquiry about our homestay program. We have been helping international students find affordable, high-quality living options for over twenty years. The longevity of our program bespeaks the satisfaction of our international students' experience in our Indianapolis homestays.
A homestay experience gives you, as an international student, the opportunity to live with an American host. This can be an important 'first step' in becoming familiar with our city, our culture, and its people. The homestay host will teach you how to navigate the public transportation system, familiarize you with local customs, and give a helping-hand in succeeding as an international visitor in Indianapolis. Some homestays consist of married couples, with or without children, or single people young and old. Most importantly, they consist of people who are ready and able to welcome you to a home away from home!
Homestays Include:
- private, furnished bedroom
- 16 meals a week (7 breakfasts, 7 dinners, 2 lunches)
- whole house privileges
- laundry facilities
- internet access
- all utilities (water, heat, electricity, air-conditioning)
- ESL support and cultural acclimation
- home within walking distance of public transportation (For information about the Indianapolis

- homestays that begin 1 - 2 days prior to IUPUI Student Orientation or start of academic program
- homestays end on Saturday before 1:00pm following the end of your last homestay session
- homestay orientation for students (shortly after arrival)
Homestay accommodations can be pre-arranged for any length of time, with the option of extending the stay if desired. If your arrival date does not correspond with published session dates, the fee is pro-rated. All payment information, session dates, policies and application procedures are clearly stated there. The homestay placement process begins immediately following receipt of a student's homestay application and placement fee ($150 USD). Homestay information is sent to students, via e-mail, no later than two weeks prior to student arrival.
