Safety and Security at IUPUI

IUPUI maintains a highly trained campus police force that works closely with the Indianapolis Police Department to provide 24-hour security. Officers patrol the campus by car, on foot, by bicycle, and on horseback, depending on the season. A free escort service provides transportation or a walking escort at night to any part of the campus. Despite more than 10,000 students, staff, and visitors coming each day to the campus, serious incidents are very rare. For detailed information and statistics confirming campus efforts to provide a safe environment, visit the IUPUI Campus Police website and select "Safety at IUPUI" from the menu bar.

Emergency Contact Information

911 is the nationwide emergency contact number for any life-threatening emergency. An operator will take your information and arrange for the appropriate medical, police, or fire assistance from local agencies as necessary for your situation. This is the preferred number when you are off-campus.

274-7911 is the IUPUI campus emergency number. You also can dial 4-7911 from any campus phone, or just pick up one a yellow campus emergency phone to request assistance. This is the preferred number when you are on campus.

Assistance from an International Affairs staff member after business hours

If you have an urgent need for assistance from an International Affairs staff member outside of regular campus business hours, call 274-7911, identify yourself as an international student or scholar, explain your problem, and request that the Campus Police assist you in contacting the Director or Assistant Director for the office.
